    Stuph
Okay, so I've been meaning to write about this for a while now, went so far the other night even to pull up this page and stare blankly at it while I tried to put what I wanted to say into words. Now however I'm really freaking tired so hopefully words won't decide to get in the way.

If you actually read what I'm sure is an absolute travesty of writing, you really deserve a medal by the way. I really appreciate you.

    Staying alive, staying alive.
Okay, they've still not come for us again, at least not actively, there've been a few knocks on the door but nothing like the relentless battering there was last night. Lily's awake and watching Sleeping Beauty but Mary's still cowering in the bedroom, I'm not sure if she's asleep or just scared stiff. Can't really blame her either way though, it was a long night last night and it'll probably be a long night again tonight. Weird to think that just yesterday I was bitching about not being able to talk Kyle into promoting me and now I probably won't go back to work there again, ever. It kind of puts things into perspective in a way.

I just looked outside again and they're still just standing there, it's getting to be disconcerting... like they don't even move unless they smell food. The stench from the various fires is almost overwhelming though, it might explain why they've not smelled -us-. Now that you can see it though the sky's this nasty colour of greenish brownish yellow, I'm guessing it has something to do with whatever caused all of this but I've not really got anything to base it on I guess.

I'm getting worried though, I imagine if those fires ever go out that I'm going to have every zombie in the complex beating down my door, and it's looking like it's about to rain. Mary's got an easel, and if I can take some of the wood that make up that frame I might be able to tie a knife onto it, just long enough to keep the zombies at bay while we try and get to the car... assuming it's not one of the ones that went up in flames. If it is, I'm not sure what we'll do, but I know we can't stay here. They'll come for us sooner or later and I've got no plans to become a zombie, at least if I can get in the car I should be able to run them over if nothing else.

I guess that's all for now, if I'm still alive here in a few hours I'll try and post again.

    The day after the end.
So I guess I woke up today after all, there were a couple times I wasn't sure I was going to make it but here I am, and apparently the internet's still running and the power's still on, guess even the undead have got their priorities right. Mary and Lily are fine if anyone else is reading this, for what it's worth I hope at least someone is reading this. I'm not sure how much longer we can hold out, the door started to give way a little bit in the night and I've got it barricaded as best I can but I don't think it'll hold. I keep telling myself they must have given up but I suspect they're actually still out there, just waiting for me, for us.

I guess I was lucky, apparently the outbreak started after I got home from work yesterday, some problem with one of the government's satellites or something, I saw an announcement about it on my MUD but didn't take it seriously until other people started corroborating it and then when I looked out my window I started to see them, just kind of stumbling around and sniffing the air for brains I guess. That was when I locked the door and started looking for something, anything to defend us when they finally realized we weren't one of them. If I make it through this I swear I'm buying a gun, the best I could find to defend us was some pots and pans.

I just looked out my window again and it's an eerie scene, nearly every other car in the lot is burning or burnt and I was right, they're still out there, just kind of.... standing there like corpses rotting in the sun. I have got some hope though, apparently at least one of my neighbours had made it through the night, well, until now at least. I guess they must have thought the coast was clear just because the sun was up. A note of warning if you do go out, those bastards are faster than I expected, as soon as the poor bugger stepped outside they were on her and now... well, she's kinda of just standing there. I think I'm going to be sick, hopefully the water still works so I can at least flush it away. I'll keep you posted as best I can... if you're reading this you know where I live, get us out if you can.

    Dreamwidth
So, I made a dreamwidth account, like everyone else. I'm iKallisti on there as well, and while I'm not sure if it'll really catch on I'll at very least crosspost to it if not eventually completely migrate depending on how many other people find their way over there. I'm already pondering the idea of a paid account though which is something I never did with LJ or IJ for that matter.

So far I'm really loving the feel of the whole place, the design just seems -cleaner- than LJ. I'll probably blog more about it later but for now it's late and I've got to work in the morning.

    Flag Code
    • In honor of 9/11/01 which spawned our current National crisis of Flag Abuse I present to you, the Flag Code.
    •
    •
    •
    • The flag should never be dipped to any person or thing, unless it is the ensign responding to a salute from a ship of a foreign nation. This tradition comes from the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, where countries were asked to dip their flag to King Edward VII: the American team flag bearer, Ralph Rose, refused, teammate Martin Sheridan famously proclaiming that "this flag dips to no earthly king."[1]
    • The flag should never be displayed with the union (the starred blue canton) down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. [2]
    • The flag should not be used as "wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery",[1] or for covering a speaker's desk, draping a platform, or for any decoration in general (exception for coffins). Bunting of blue, white and red stripes is available for these purposes. The blue stripe of the bunting should be on the top.
    • The flag should never be drawn back or bunched up in any way.
    • The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
    • The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed, or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard.
    • The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and members of patriotic organizations. (Note that on Army uniforms, where the flag is put on the sleeve of the uniform, the flag patch is displayed with the stars facing forward, in the direction the wearer is facing. This is done to give the impression of the flag flowing in the wind while being carried forward across the battlefield. This is known as the "Reverse Field Flag." Also note that many athletic teams appear to have ignored this rule, notably, the 2008 US Olympic Team, Major League Baseball placed the flag on the back of all uniforms following the 9/11 attacks, and the US team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic wore a flag patch on their left sleeve. For Independence Day and 9/11 2008, with the exception of the Toronto Blue Jays, all MLB teams will wear navy-blue versions of their hats, with an American flag imposed inside their own logo.) Flag lapel pins may also be worn (they are considered replicas) and are worn near the heart.
    • The flag should never have placed on it, or attached to it, any mark, insignia, letter, word, number, figure, or drawing of any kind.
    • The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
    • The flag should never be stepped on.
    • The flag should not be draped over the hood, top, sides, or back of a vehicle, railroad train, or boat.
    • When the flag is lowered, no part of it should touch the ground or any other object; it should be received by waiting hands and arms. To store the flag it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously.
    • The flag should be cleaned and mended when necessary.
    • If the flag is being used at a public or private estate, it should not be hung (unless at half mast) during rain or violent weather.
    • When a flag is so tattered that it can no longer serve as a symbol of the United States, it should be destroyed in a dignified manner, preferably by burning. The American Legion, Boy Scouts of America[3], Girl Scouts of the USA[4] and other organizations regularly conduct dignified flag-burning ceremonies, often on Flag Day, June 14.
    • The flag should never touch anything beneath it. Contrary to an urban legend, the flag code does not state that a flag that touches the ground should be burned. Instead, the flag should be moved so it is not touching the ground.[5]
    • The flag should always be permitted to fall freely.

    Displaying the flag outdoors

    • When the flag is displayed from a staff projecting from a window, balcony, or a building, the union should be at the peak of the staff unless the flag is at half-staff. When it is displayed from the same flagpole with another flag, the flag of the United States must always be at the top except that the church pennant may be flown above the flag during church services for Navy personnel when conducted by a Naval chaplain on a ship at sea.
    • When the flag is displayed over a street, it should be hung vertically, with the union to the north or east. If the street runs north-south, the stars should face east. For streets running east-west, the stars should face north. If the flag is suspended over a sidewalk, the flag's union should be farthest from the building and the stars facing away from it.
    • When flown with flags of states, communities or societies on separate flag poles which are of the same height and in a straight line, the flag of the United States is always placed in the position of honor—to its own right. The other flags may be the same size but none may be larger.
    • No other flag should be placed above it. The flag of the United States is always the first flag raised and the last to be lowered.
    • When flown with the national banner of other countries, each flag must be displayed from a separate pole of the same height. Each flag should be the same size. They should be raised and lowered simultaneously. The flag of one nation may not be displayed above that of another nation in time of peace.[6]
    • The flag should be raised briskly and lowered slowly and ceremoniously.
    • Ordinarily it should be displayed only between sunrise and sunset, although the Flag Code permits night time display "when a patriotic effect is desired." Similarly, the flag should be displayed only when the weather is fair, except when an all weather flag is displayed. (By presidential proclamation and law, the flag is displayed continuously at certain honored locations like the United States Marine Corps Memorial in Arlington and Lexington Green.)
    • It should be illuminated if displayed at night.
    • The flag of the United States of America is saluted as it is hoisted and lowered. The salute is held until the flag is unsnapped from the halyard or through the last note of music, whichever is the longest.

    Displaying the flag indoors

    • When on display, the flag is accorded the place of honor, always positioned to its own right. Place it to the right of the speaker or staging area or sanctuary. Other flags should be to the left.
    • The flag of the United States of America should be at the center and at the highest point of the group when a number of flags of states, localities, or societies are grouped for display.
    • When one flag is used with the flag of the United States of America and the staffs are crossed, the flag of the United States is placed on its own right with its staff in front of the other flag.
    • When displaying the flag against a wall, vertically or horizontally, the flag's union (stars) should be at the top, to the flag's own right, and to the observer's left.

    Parading and saluting the flag

    • When carried in a procession, the flag should be to the right of the marchers.
    • When other flags are carried, the flag of the United States may be centered in front of the others or carried to their right. When the flag passes in a procession, or when it is hoisted or lowered, all should face the flag and salute.
    • To salute, all persons come to attention.
      • Those in uniform give the appropriate formal salute.
      • Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute.
      • Citizens not in uniform salute by placing their right hand over the heart and men with head cover should remove it and hold it to left shoulder, hand over the heart.
      • Members of uniformed organizations in formation salute upon command of the person in charge.

Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem

    • The Pledge of Allegiance all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart;
    • When the national anthem is played or sung;

    (a) Designation.— The composition consisting of the words and music known as the Star-Spangled Banner is the national anthem. (b) Conduct During Playing.— During a rendition of the national anthem— (1) when the flag is displayed— (A) all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart; (B) men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold the headdress at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart; and (C) individuals in uniform should give the military salute at the first note of the anthem and maintain that position until the last note; and (2) when the flag is not displayed, all present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed.

    The flag in mourning

    • To place the flag at half-staff (or half-mast, on ships), hoist it to the peak for an instant and lower it to a position half way between the top and bottom of the staff.
    • The flag is to be raised again to the peak for a moment before it is lowered.
    • On Memorial Day, the flag is displayed at half-staff until noon and at full staff from noon to sunset.
    • The flag is to be flown at half-staff in mourning for the death of designated, principal government leaders.
    • The flag is to be flown at half-staff for thirty days in mourning for the death of the current or former President of the United States.
    • The U.S. flag is otherwise flown at half-staff (or half-mast, on ships) when directed by the President of the United States or a state governor.
    • When used to cover a casket or coffin, the flag should be placed with the union at the head and over the left shoulder. It should not be lowered into the grave.

    Catwoman is me. Apparently.
    You scored as Catwoman

Given a second chance at life, Selina Kyle indulged herself in cat burglary and jewelry. although a constant foe of Batman, she has given up her misdeeds (Mostly) and watches over the east side of Gotham. Selina is quite a tease and delights in toying with men. She is very agile. Although crime is not beneath her ability, she is a good person at heart and only wishes harm on her enemies.

    Bedbugs
Sooo, apparently we have a bed bug infestation. Those little bites and itchies we've been complaining about for so long? Bed bugs it turns out. We've finally started seeing the fuckers crawling around, which supposedly means that we're like BEYOND infested. Best part of everything is that we're either going to have to move or pay way too much to get rid of the things, most treatments don't neccesarily work, they're very difficult to get rid of. The worst part is that I'm exhausted and now I'm terrified of going to sleep because I don't want them sucking out my blood...

    Cat

    Your Score: The Cat

You scored 51% domestic, 24% gregarious, 39% trickster, and 67% intellect!

Domestic, Solitary, Serious, Intelectual: you are the Cat!

Cat represents a balance of strength in both physical and spiritual, psychic and sensual powers, merging these two worlds into one. Curious, intelligent, and physically adept, cat people tend to live in a world all their own.

This test categorized you based on four different axes of personality, which were then associated with a different animal. The four axes, as well as all possible results are explained below.

Wild/Domestic: This first axis categorizes you based on how much you are drawn to the outdoors, versus how much you are drawn to civilized situations. Domesticity has many shapes and forms, and varies from the joy of dolphins leaping next to a ship to the steadfast loyalty of a family dog.

Gregarious/Solitary: This axis measures how solitary you are. If you scored high, it means that you enjoy the company of other people, while a low score indicates that you prefer a more solitary lifestyle.

Trickster/Serious: This axis measures how well you line up with conventional trickster archetypes. People who fall into this archetype have a sense of humor and an excitable, highly chaotic streak. Scoring low doesn't mean that you don't have a sense of humor; it just means that you probably don't think dynamite is very funny.

Intellectual/Emotional: This last axis determines whether you are more emotional -- acting based on feelings and instinct, or rational and intelectual -- acting more on thought than on your gut feelings.

In the Eye of the Nargle or Why Nargles Reside in Mistletoe (Ginny/Luna/Nargle)
Title: In the Eye of the Nargle or Why Nargles Reside in Mistletoe
    Author: morbiddawn[info]
    Pairings: Ginny/Luna/Nargle (sort of)
    Rating: R
    Length: 400 words
Disclaimer: All characters belong to JK, I just play with them.
    Warnings: Femmeslash, Voyeurism
Comments: Short little fic I was somehow inspired to write. Based very loosely on another Ginny/Luna fic I read six or more months ago but I cannot for the life of me remember the title. Feedback is always appreciated.

I watched them in safety from my perch in the mistletoe, well hidden by the hanging white berries. The blonde girl with the radish earrings was embracing the freckled redhead and I could not look away. I had not been able to look away for the many nights now they had met in secret beneath my perch. I tightened my grip as I drew as close as I could while still staying hidden, the blonde was saying something about Nargles, pointing directly at me but the redhead just laughed and pulled her closer again, kissing her even as she still spoke.

Year's may come, year's may go
The season changed yesterday, it's weird how that happens... one day it's late summer and autumn will never come and then boom it's rainy and autumnal. Not to mention it's the new year, this is probably the first time I've really associated the feeling I always get this time of year with the fact that the old year is dying and the new one is about to begin. It's different really, it's not a constant feeling, it comes and goes with differing intensity but it's always made me restless. It sucks being at work, I know some people always want to go outside and be in nature in the spring and summer but with me it's always fall. It's strange I'm not really sure how to put it but... you can tell it's funereal in the way things look even, they take on that gray cast to them even when it's sunny. It's a very introspective thing for me and when I was thinking about it yesterday I realized that everything is different from this same time last year but in a way things are still very similar. At this time last year the fiance and I were still in the first apartment we'd had, she was out of a job and money was incredibly tight but we still managed to be happy. We probably would've laughed in your face if you'd told us we would have a baby in a year's time. But we do now, and we're in an apartment that's very similarly arranged to the first one, she's out of a job till the doctor okays her and money is if anything as tight as it could be with us still being able to keep a roof over our heads. But I guess the real thing is both of us have changed in so many imperceptible ways. I don't know, I'm rambling now.

    Dumbledore's Gay, really!
So apparently JK meant all along for Dumbledore to be gay, I can just see the all the new fanfic now... in case you've not read it MSN has the full story here http://entertainment.msn.com/news/article.aspx?news=280397&mpc=1 and HPANA has another story here http://www.hpana.com/news.20228.html that goes into more detail about the other questions asked. In other news there was a rush on hospitals as the many McGonnagal/Dumbledore shippers tried to end it all after hearing the news.

Where oh where are all the interesting comms? Oh where oh where can they be...
So after starting to look through the site I've noticed a woeful lack of interesting communities... or even communities with a membership of more than five people. It could have been the way I was searching I guess, I was clicking on my own interests (all but like... two of which had at least one other person with it listed on LJ) and realizing that for a number of them I'm the only journal with it listed and there's only one or two communities with a collective membership of... less than fifteen people who haven't posted in a rather long time. The only communities that seem to have any real membership presence are ones that have migrated over from LJ. Hopefully this will grow because... well... bleh... while most of the communities I was in on LJ were very very very dead they were at least there...

So I guess I migrated huh? Never really posted much on LJ, might not here either, I did enjoy the fanfic muchly and I can't condone what 6A's up to. Like I said on my user info I was morbiddawn on LJ but I've been using the name Kallisti for about... 3 years now so since I found a way to make it work... it works. It's late now and since I just moved over I'll probably start actually looking around the site and journals in a day or two to see what's interesting and how many long dead communities I can join without actually realizing they're dead and that that last post an hour ago was just someone being hopeful.
